מידע נוסף

1950s black dress made from a thick silk crepe sewn in a faux wrap style. The hem of the full skirt is edged in a thick band of black velvet as are the edges of the wrap detail. The dress has a wide boat neck edged in black velvet and short fitted sleeves. The dress is fastened with a zipper under the left arm. The dress is unlined but has a tulle underskirt attached to ensure the classic full skirted shape of the era.

As seen with many countries in Europe, post WW2 and the founding of the State of Israel, Israel enacted rationing laws. Large packages of clothing were sent to Israel from the US, donated by the Jewish community or sent directly to family members to help struggling families survive during this era of austerity. This dress and dress no. 3840 arrived in Israel as part of these packages. They were sent from the American branch of the donor's family to their cousins in Israel. It is unclear whether these dresses were ever worn, however they have been incredibly well cared for. Despite no label existing on these dresses, according to family tradition, they were purchased at Bergdorf Goodmans in New York.
