Black sleeveless dress from the 1950s. The dress echoes characteristics found in Balenciaga sack dress styles. The straight dress is fastened at the center front with a column of 7 large buttons which are covered in a thin rope. At the front, the dress has gathers at wither shoulder. The back of the neck is encircled in a wide flat yoke and the fabric of the dress is attached to this panel with gathers at each side. Shape is given to the dress via a fabric belt which is threaded around the back of the wearer through a small gap at each side seam and then tied at the front so that the back of the dress is left loose and the waist is emphasised at the front only.
The dress is lined with black silk at the upper back area, the store label is sewn here. A larger store label is stitched to the inside of the back seam of the dress above the hem.
