Two piece set made from a cream coloured thick woven woolen fabric by Norman Norell for his brand Traina-Norell. 
The simple detail in shirt of the set (A) is created with a gently downward sloping seam above the chest - a shape characteristic of this era. The top has a high wide neckline and no sleeves and is fastened with four covered buttons at the back. The top is lined in cream coloured silk. Attached to the inside lining at the back of the shirt is a flattened silk tube into which a weight has been inserted - this ensures that the shirt remains high at the front and slopes down at the back. Encircling the hem of the shirt small round weights are attached and covered in a strip of cotton which is in turn concealed beneath a strip of cream silk. These weights are intended to ensure the shirt remains in the correct place on the wearer. 
The skirt of the set (B) has an 'A' line cut and sits flat at the front with a few gathers either side  of the center front which hide the pocket openings. The skirt is fastened with two zippers and two hook and eye closures on either side of the center back. The skirt is lined in cream coloured silk and a cream coloured stiffened organza to maintain the skirt shape. A small label embroidered with 'Front' is stitched to the lining of the front waistband indicating which way the skirt is to be worn. A small round weight incased in cream silk is sewn to the bottom of the left hand pocket to ensure the skirt sits as intended on the wearer.
